Merry Late Christmas everyone! It was a pretty busy day yesterday, so I could not get a Christmas wish onto my blog until today. I hope it was a wonderful Christmas! It was mine and Ryan's first Christmas together! :)

No snow.
Waited all day and guess what, yeah, that's right, no snow here in Midway. But southern Indiana got about 10 inches and probably will get 10 inches more tonight.

Winter Concert
I had my first concert as a teacher last night at the Western Hills High School auditorium. It was a lot of fun and the kids did pretty well. The program consisted of:
Beginning Chorus:
Viva la musica-Opening procession/round by Michael Praetorius (a cappella)
Cantaremos-Spanish dance song arranged by Ramon Noble (a cappella)
Every Valley-arranged by John Ness Beck (piano)
Keep Your Lamps-Spiritual arranged by Andre Thomas (a cappella)
Carols Around-Compilation of carols and Dona nobis pacem by Carl Nygard Jr. (piano)
Chamber Choir:
How Merrily We Live-English madrigal by Michael East (a cappella)
Mon coeur se recommande a vous-French chanson by Jean-Baptiste Weckerlin (a cappella)
All My Trials-Bahamian spiritual by Norman Luboff (a cappella)
Lo, how a Rose e'er Blooming-Christmas carol by Michael Praetorius (a cappella)
Controppunto bestiale alle mente-Counterpoint by Adriano Bachieri (a cappella)
Chorale:
Laudate by Knut Nystedt (a cappella)
Adoramus te by Jacob Clemens non Papa (a cappella)
Kyrie from Mass in G by Franz Schubert (piano/violin)
Lamb of God by F. Melius Christiansen (a cappella)
Can't Buy Me Love by Lennon/McCartney (a cappella)
Carol of the Bells by Leontovich/Wilhousky (a cappella)
Irish Blessing by James Moore (a cappella)
I was happy that the kids were able to pull off an almost entirely a cappella concert. It's been a lot of hard work with some complaining and grumbling along the way, but I think they were happy with the end result last night. They were very energized for the concert and excited to sing. I was proud of them.

Northern Lights
Really cool! If you went out last night and go out tonight when it is dark, look to the north and you should be able to see the Northern Lights!!! Ryan and I saw it last night. It was very clear green in the sky. Andy told me that there was a coronal burst, in other words a sun spot exploded and shot stuff towards the Earth, and that is why we can see them.
Mom told me that tonight there will also be a meteor shower! Cool, huh?!
Outer space is really giving us a show!

Bluegrass Festival, what??
Yeah, so here we (Ryan and me) are at the University of Kentucky (oops, I almost typed Louisville). We are supposed to be at the Bluegrass Choral Music Festival, but instead are scoping out the UK Music Library. It is actually the Fine Arts library. We found out that we are able to get IDs and check out things from the library. That will be so nice.
I was able to find information on a piece that I am doing with one of my groups. I was curious about the prolation in the music, so I looked it up. It is a piece by Jacobus Clemens non Papa. I thought it was an Adoramus te (according to the edition I have), but to my surprise the Adoramus te is from a larger piece, O crux benedicta. Oh, so many thanks for stupid editions of music that leave out 3/4 of the actual piece. Oi. Anyway, I now know the rest of the piece and can get my group going on that portion. I'll be damned if I do just that short segment.

All Moved In!!!
With the help of our wonderful parents, Ryan and I are completely moved from our apartment to our new house! There is still a lot of stuff to unpack at our house, but at least there is nothing left at the apartment for me to move during my fall break. It actually wasn't too bad. In only 4 trips we got everything moved. I am so glad to be out of the crazy, scary, murderous apartment complex!
Anyway, because of the move, we are without internet access for a while, so I am writing this from school. I will not be on here or checking my e-mail for a while until we get it. Just wanted to let whomever comes here know.

We're moving!
So, this weekend Ry and I will be moving into our new house!! Craziness. Yes, we are now officially homeowners. Now, as Peter said, we are a part of the middle class with our white collar jobs, and next, as he said, will come the children and me becoming a soccer mom driving my shiny SUV!!!! NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
We're jumping to conclusions when all we are doing is buying a house, right??
Besides, I'm against those gas-guzzling, air polluting machines. It's all about the Mini-Coopers.
Anyway, we are moving and are pretty excited. We're gonna get the big stuff moved this weekend and then (I have a week-long fall break) I will move box loads in multiple trips. Wish us luck!

New Comment Rules
Tiffany was getting lots of advertisers posting comments, so I've moved her blog over to a system that uses TypeKey. This is a system that allows you to authenticate to a central server and then be allowed to post on any blog that uses TypeKey. If you don't have an account, you should get one - it will allow you to post here, and it will be showing up a lot more sites.

The Prayer Hand-What a story!
Yes, oh yes, I found it! But first the story...
So, Ryan and I were at Central Christian one morning for church. During the children's message they were talking about praying and how to remember for whom to pray. The girl doing the message suggested this method to the children:
5-FINGER PRAYER REMINDER
You can use your hand as a reminder to pray for others. Hold your hand with your thumb pointing toward you. The thumb reminds us to pray for those closest to us -- family, friends, neighbors. The index finger (pointer) reminds us of those who have pointed us the right way -- teachers and spiritual leaders. The middle finger is the tallest and brings to mind our President and other leaders of our country. The next finger is called the weak finger and we can pray for the weak, sick, the poor and those who need help. We finish with the little finger, praying for ourselves and our own needs.
And afterwards Ryan leans over to me and asks, "Did she just say the President gets the middle finger??!!" I just chuckled.
Therefore, remembering what I learned that day in church, I am more than happy to give the Commander in Chief the one finger salute! HA!

Where in the World is Chad Sloan?
Ok, so Chad's name doesn't work as well as Carmen Sandiego, but hey, he's just as much the world traveler. Check out this article from Juilliard online about Chad's Germany trip. How cool!

Picture of the Month-September
Happy September! Let's celebrate this month with a picture of a double-yolked egg. Yeah, some of you may say that that is merely two different eggs, but no! It was a double-yolked egg. Yes, a double-yolked egg that I cracked while making a cake. So what would that mean? Was it two chickies? Maybe twin chickies? The world may never know.

Go Cardinal Singers!!!
The University of Louisville Cardinal Singers were invited to sing at the Choral Olympics in Bremen, Germany. We were there from July 14-18. We simply were looking to go and sing our best, enjoy being there, and hear some excellent choirs. But to our surprise we got more than that!! The Cardinal Singers won three gold medals...one in each category that we entered. We performed in the Chamber Choir category, Spiritual/Gospel category, and the Contemporary category. We were Category Winners in the Chamber Choir and the Spiritual/Gospel! Go check us out on here and here and here on the Choral Olympics website. (Yeah, yeah, that last link doesn't have our picture, but it DOES have our name if you scroll down.)

Forever and a day
Gosh, it has been forever and a day since I have posted! I'm sorry Bret. A lot has happened since I last posted! First of all, I am DONE with college!!!! It's unbelievable. I still feel like I have a class or a paper or something left. On the other hand it is an amazing feeling to say that I am COMPLETELY DONE!!! WOW!
Also, the wedding is getting close! Take a look at my handy-dandy wedding countdown. The last few things are being taken care of. I hope I haven't forgotten anything.
My life is changing very quickly. One chapter closes and another opens. Exciting, sad, happy, unsure...isn't life wonderful!

So Cool!
Tonight after my Verdi rehearsal I stopped by IUS where Mom and Dad were at the observatory looking at the planets. These past few day five planets (Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn) were all visible with the naked eye in the night sky. We were able to view the planets and the moon through their telescopes. Jupiter and Saturn were unbelievable! With Jupiter you could see four moons around it and two red rings across the planet. With Saturn it looked almost unreal because it was so clear the sphere with the rings, plus its moons. It is such an amazing experience to look at these planets that are so far away. Wow!

So, I wasa thinking, I have my own naked chef!!! It's Andy! And it made me think of Panama City. HE would cook and WE would eat it all! Yum, Yum, I miss my Naked Chef.
